In October 2024, Pangkor Laut Resort, nestled on a secluded island paradise, bore witness to an unparalleled crescendo of artistry with the second edition of Opera in Paradise. Guests were captivated by the enchanting combination of world-class music and the resort’s natural beauty, as globally renowned musicians, who had graced the most prestigious concert halls, performed against the breathtaking backdrop of the private island, creating an unforgettable symphony amid its serene splendour.
This second edition of Opera in Paradise featured a lineup of award-winning performers. World-renowned flautist, Andrea Griminelli, who returned as the Musical Director, was joined by Cathy-Di Zhang and John Longmuir from Australia. These extraordinary performances graced a stage unlike any other, harmonising perfectly with Pangkor Laut Resort's unique ethos of 'One Island, One Resort.' Guests experienced treasured moments, meticulously curated against a backdrop of sunshine, sea, sand, and an ancient rainforest dating back two million years, making the event an unforgettable fusion of music and nature.
ANDREA GRIMINELLIAndrea Griminelli is an acclaimed Italian flautist with a distinguished career spanning over 35 years. Renowned for his sensitive interpretations and remarkable technique, he has garnered accolades and awards worldwide, including a Grammy, the Prix de Paris, and an Italian Knighthood. Having collaborated with Pavarotti himself, Griminelli was invited by the tenor to perform at his concert in New York's Madison Square Garden at the youthful age of 25. Griminelli returns as the Musical Director of this event, which serves as a tribute to Pavarotti's historic performance on the island. |
CATHY-DI ZHANG
Cathy-Di Zhang, an award-winning soprano and Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, completed her studies there on a full scholarship. Returning to Australia in 2020, she has since performed with top Australian companies, debuting in multiple roles including for Opera Australia and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Previous roles include Zerlina in "Don Giovanni" and Mimi in "La Bohème".
She has also appeared internationally and participated in prestigious festivals.
